Prohibition
Prohibition contributed to the growth of organized crime because people still wanted alcohol so bootleggers sold the illegal alcohol to consumers. Al Capone was a notorious gangster, and illustrated organized crime during the prohibition era (Al Capone). He sold the illegal alcohol to consumers. He bought it then sold it to make a illegal business out buying and selling alcohol. He called himself a businessman. He also had other illegal “business” like drugs, robbery, and murder. People drank in secret drinking places called speakeasies. Prohibition and the banning of alcohol created lots of crime and illegal things. So by the
1920's politicians wanted to repeal the 18th amendment because they did not have enough feds to destroy all the manufactures of illegal alcohol. (Lapsansky-Werner 229-230)
